Romania Introduces New Road Tax System from 1 October 2026

NTG Neptun Transport is closely monitoring the new distance-based road tax model and will provide updates as more details become available.

The Romanian government has advised that as of 01.10.26, there will be a change in the method of calculating road tax for freight transport.   Currently the system is based on vignettes that are purchased per day inside Romania, the new system will be based on the number of kilometers travelled inside Romania.   Currently, it is still unclear what the actual consequences of this will be, but it is expected that this will result in an increase in costs.  We are monitoring the situation and will update accordingly.
